"At the moment, from the perspective of the last days, we understand this step as a defensive, not offensive, action," Czech EU presidency spokesman Jiri Potuznik said.
Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg is leading an EU delegation to the region on Sunday, and Potuznik said the presidency will wait to see the results of that visit.
However, France condemned Israel's move to send ground forces into Gaza.
"France condemns the Israeli ground offensive against Gaza as it condemns the continuation of rocket firing," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"This dangerous military escalation complicates efforts by the international community and in particular the European Union and France, the members of the Quartet and the states in the region to end the fighting, bring immediate aid to civilians and reach a permanent ceasefire," the statement said.
'Luxury of telling the truth'
The Czech Republic already defended Israel's strikes against Hamas last week. At the time, Foreign Minister Schwarzenberg said Israel had the right to defend itself.
"Let us realize one thing: Hamas increased steeply the number of rockets fired at Israel since the ceasefire ended on Dec. 19. That is not acceptable any more," Schwarzenberg told daily Mlada Fronta Dnes in an interview.
Schwarzenberg, a staunch ally of Washington, said Hamas had excluded itself from serious political debate due to its rocket attacks on Israel. He also indirectly blamed the group for the growing death toll, saying it put its bases and gun warehouses in densely populated areas.
"Why am I one of the few that have expressed understanding for Israel? ... I am enjoying the luxury of telling the truth," Schwarzenberg told the daily.

سربازان ارتش دفاعی اسرائیل در غزه
با اینکه به گفته سخنگوی ارتش ، ان کشور تصمیمی در ادامه عملیات طولانی در غزه ندارد با این وجود اطلاع رسید که ارتش اسرائیل دست به بسیج هزاران تن از نفرات ذخیره زده است .ارتش اسرائیل همچنین منع رفت و امد دریائی تا ۳۰ کیلومتری از سواحل غزه را نیز بمرحله اجرا گذارده است .
شواتسنبرگ از عملیات غزه پشتیبانی میکند
و در این راستا « اوباما » در حالیکه جریانات منطقه را دنبال میکند ولی همچنان به سکوت خود نیز ادامه میدهد .
سخنگوی جمهوری چک در اتحادیه اروپا « جیری پوتوزنیک » اظهار داشت « در این لحظه با نظر به انچه که در روزهای اخیر در منطقه اتفاق افتاده عقیده ما اینست که این عملیات جنبه تهاجمی نداشته و حالت دفاعی دارد ، این در حالیست که ریاست دوره ئی قبلی اتحادیه اروپا ، فرانسه ، به نکوهش از اجرای عملیات زمینی در غزه دست زده است .

شورای امنیت سازمان ملل متحد به منظور مشورت در این باره تشکیل جلسه خواهد داد ولی هنوز معلوم نیست که اگر بصورت رسمی تشکیل گردد . محمود عباس و چند تن دیگر از وزرای امور خارجه کشورهای عربی قرار است در این جلسه که روز دوشنبه تاریخ گشایش ان است حضور بهم رسانند . وزیر امور خارجه جمهوری چک « کارل شوارتسنبرگ » فردا یکشنبه در راس نمایندگانی از اتحادیه اروپا وارد منطقه خواهد شد و اتحادیه اروپا تا مشاهده نتایج این سفر در مورد عملیات غزه تصمیمی اتخاذ نخواهد کرد .

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is heading to Israel along with police Commissioner Raymond Kelly and New York Rep. Gary Ackerman.
Spokesman Andrew Brent said the mayor "is going in order to show his support for Israel."
The trip comes as Israel launches a ground offensive in Gaza following eight days of punishing airstrikes that failed to halt militant rocket attacks on Israel.
Bloomberg, who is Jewish, is scheduled to spend Sunday meeting with the mayors of Sderot and Ashkelon and with New Yorkers who have moved to Israel. He's expected to be back in New York by Monday morning.
The mayor has already voiced his support for Israel in recent days, saying he believes Israel has a right to defend itself.
The US State Department issued a statement Saturday saying it was working toward a ceasefire between Israel and the armed Palestinian groups in Gaza that would bring an end to the continued rocket fire on the Jewish state.
Cautious statements from the State Department and the White House voiced concern about the humanitarian situation in Gaza, but did not directly criticize Israel for moving ground forces into Gaza.
State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said "it's obvious the ceasefire should take place as soon as possible," but it has to be sustainable and cannot allow Hamas to continue to launch rockets out of Gaza.

عملیات زمینی در غزه اغاز شد

نیروهای زرهی و پیاده با همکاری هلیکوپترهای نیروی هوائی مرحله تازه ئی را در عملیات غزه که از یکهفته پیش اغاز شده بود شروع کردند. نیروها در ساعت ۷ بعد از ظهر بوقت اسرائیل برابر با ۹ صبح شنبه سوم ژانویه در لس انجلس به داخل قسمتهائی از غزه هجوم اورده و تاسیسات زیربنائی انرا در شمال منطقه مورد حملات شدید و گسترده قرار دادند.

این حملات با بمباران نیروهای توپخانه به قسمت شرقی غزه شروع و با هجوم هم اهنگ نیروهای زرهی ، پیاده ، مهندسی ، و توپخانه و اطلاعاتی به شمال ان ادامه یافت . به گزارش ارتش دفاعی اسرائیل ( تسهل ) تا کنون بیش از ده ها تن تروریست مسلح حماس در این برخوردها کشته و یا زخمی شده اند
